From research to final designs in 2 months while working collaboratively on other projects simultaneously.
Background
In the spring of 2024, I developed an app to address social media addiction. Based on my personal experiences and interviews with others, I discovered just how destructive this addiction can be. The idea for this app arose during one of my own doom-scrolling sessions. I saw an advertisement for an app designed to help with social media addiction. While I thought this was a good concept, it still required users to be on their phones.
I wanted to create something that would strengthen people's relationships, encourage them to meet new people, and try new activities. My goal was to provide regular experiences that didn't involve being glued to their devices—experiences where they could be fully present.
This category details the process taken during the project, including research, ideation, design, development, and testing phases.
Research & Planning
Conducting interviews with a diverse group of users, set me off in the direction of being able to understand key pain points and necessities. From there I looked at various similar options on the market to divulge what worked vs what could be refined.
Define & design
By defining the needs into specific features, I started sketching and creating wireframes. After that, I concentrated on the brand's look and feel, experimenting with logo concepts and colour palettes.
Testing & optimisation
Through rigorous usability testing and performance metrics, refining its features and workflows to ensure an intuitive user experience and improved efficiency.
Finalise
After collecting user feedback and making adjustments based on how they interacted with the app, I completed the UI/UX design project. I ensured that the design was smooth and user-friendly, addressing all the key preferences expressed by our users.
Focusing on personalisation and user research made it possible to achieve a user experience that engages and guides the user.

Project achievements
By concentrating on user research and personalization, I developed an app that truly resonates with users. I gained valuable insights into their preferences, needs, and behaviours through extensive research, which informed the design decisions the most. This allowed me to tailor the app’s features and interface to align perfectly with user expectations, creating a seamless and intuitive experience. By prioritizing personalization, I implemented custom options that adapt to individual user journeys, making the app easy to navigate and engaging. As a result, I succeeded in creating an app that not only meets but exceeds user expectations, fostering a sense of ownership and satisfaction among our users.
Lessons learned
The conclusion of each project often prompts a moment of reflection, highlighting the significant journey undertaken throughout the process. Engaging in these projects is a rewarding experience, as they provide me with the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and enhance my skills as a designer. Moreover, I have found that I am increasingly capable of conducting user interviews, which enables me to gather valuable insights effectively.
